Explore a Creative Career with Columbia College Hollywood

Our Visual Effects program is offered in person and online, and either option presents a unique opportunity to build a creative career. You’ll be able to learn from industry professionals and put together a portfolio without having to uproot your life for your studies.

During the program, which is 4 years and 192 credit hours, you will:

  • Collaborate with others and develop contemporary skills for use in television, movies, games, and interactive media
  • Learn from faculty mentors, who are also working professionals
  • Use professional, high-end software, including: Maya, Zbrush, Cinema4D and Houdini
  • Build a portfolio of original works to showcase what you’ve learned

After graduation, you’ll have a portfolio full of stunning characters, creatures, and visual effects you’ve created. You will also have full access to all resources available to students at Columbia College Hollywood, including our Career Services office.

WHERE YOU CAN WORK
Graduates of the program are qualified for a great many positions working in film and television. Example careers include VFX Supervisor, Motion Graphics Artist, Compositor, Animator, and more.

Within this emphasis, students will use 3D and 2D computer software to create performances for the screen. They will create characters and sequences that tell or add to the story.

Within the compositing emphasis, you will learn to create and add digital characters, green screen actors, CGI, and more to live action scenes. Students will also learn digital lighting, rendering, and motion capture.

Students in the modeling emphasis will create creatures, characters, and sets as well as models. Students will use industry standard digital sculpting and 3D modeling software to create projects for their portfolio. The Modeling emphasis immerses you in the skills and theory you’ll need to build your career as a modeler specialist in a variety of industries, including entertainment, interactive entertainment, marketing, advertising, and education.
